Racing games on the #C64 were actually pretty few and far between, the good ones, anyway - there's likely a list of about ten that would be easy to name. LETC is one of them - it's a cracking game. High production values, just gorgeous. Top work.

When you talk about classic games, within not too long a time, Elite will crop up. It really is that important a game. Written on the BBC Micro, ported everywhere, the #C64 version is a cracking game and the more recent "Flicker Free" version by Mark Moxon is... Elite!

I don't *need* to redo BB as an LL64, but there has been radio chatter about it across many profiles this week, so why not join in & showcase one of the best racers on the #C64? Exactly. No reason not to. So here we are. Every single thing about this game is magic.

Back to the Future II

I think given a little time and effort one could come to enjoy BttF2 on the #C64. Out of the box, tape, disk or cart, it looks and sounds great, but the first part of the first level is mega tricksy. It's a shame, as the later levels look much more interesting!

It was somehow... inevitably, ladies & german measels that I would choose to focus upon the #C64 version of DC. A game, I have never played and still have not played, as I cannot seem to find a working copy. Does such a thing exist..? We will find out...

Seemingly simple, but this loading screen to Dragon's Lair II on the Commodore 64 is glorious. Just look at it. Purple-robed lizard king Singe is holding a sceptre, as Dirk the Daring enters through a dark-lit stone entrance, fortified and held up with thick, wooden beams.. It just looks amazing.

Wow. I had forgotten just how good this game is. Bloody Nora sitting in an eggcup. This is proper decent arcade adventure on the #C64. A series of mini games, with specific (usually timed) joystick inputs required. Glorious sound. Just ACE!

Matin! I fondly remember salivating over WoF in CF back in late 1990 and I couldn't understand why the game only reviewed at the (albeit the best) mid-seventies on the #C64. Firing it up now, it seems like a lovely game! Just take your time with the controls!

Sticking with #UltimatePlayTheGame we have another Speccy conversion to the #C64 and again, seemingly, swathes of people have much love for UW, I just think it's a bouncing mess of annoyance. What's your take..?

Arcade adventures on the #C64 never been so blocky, nor so brown. Man. This game. Sir Arthur Pendragon, I believe, with a handful of spells and a perpetually draining energy level, he is in a maze of brown, blocky hell. RUN AWAY! The Nostalgia Feels, but jeez...

Whatta game. Racing games don't come much better on the ol' #C64 - TC really is a stonking achievement and a real testement of what can be done on the Breadbin with a little (a lot?) of care and attention. The intro is epic. The game is cool and the cut scenes yo!

Ahhhh, who doesn't love a puzzler on the ol' #C64? Plenty. That aside, this little gem from 1992 is an ace take on the old track junction switcheroo vibe and there is a lot going on. Not least, as you can make your own levels. Plenty going on and its all wrapped up nice too!

I think I bought the original Stormlord and played it a bit, slightly disappointed that it didn't play anywhere near as good as it looking on the #C64. Its follow up, is almost exactly the same, which, for the time, was still a good platform / arcade adventure.

A classic arcade game BITD, KFM of course made its way to the home micros and the #C64 version is, as was almost always the case, the superior version. It still ain't great, but that's more an indictment of a poor game, than a bad conversion. Heavy Nostalgia Vibes. POW!

Unsurprisingly the follow up to RD1, RD2 takes it to eleven. 5 levels. Multiload, but allowing you to start from 1-4 if you like, saving the finalé for, well, last. Rightly so. #C64 platformers don't come much more well-made than this. It is a gorgeous, glorious game.

I never played this BITD and I have just spent a happy 15 minutes playing it - once you get the controls sorted, this is actually quite an amount of fun! #C64 Subbuteo is a thing! If you are under the age of XX and don't know what "Subbuteo" is - Google it. That was quite fun!

The #C64 does arcade adventures really, really, really well and DD1 is no expection. Forty years ago today (Colonel Dare taught the band to play) Virgin's "Gang of Five" designed and delivered a super solid AA game and I am crap at it. I need to invest some time..!

For four quid, you'd do well to dwell on the fact that this game is a bargain and it plays phenomenally and looks even better. It's a real gem in the Codies library and super late, likely one of the last #C64 games released on the "original" Codemasters label. Halcyon Days...

What you miss from this lovely title screen, is the animated intro of the ship landing (and taking off), the pilot and companion doggo emerging, the vault door opening and us entering and the vault door closing. #C64 games don't get much more atmospheric than this. PLAY IT.

I am feeling like a total bag o' shite, so I want to focus on something old and fun, like me, as I am that shallow. #C64 puzzlers are fairly few and far, but this classic oldie from 1986 (I was 9!) has nostalgia written all over it. Never played it? Fix that today!

Think NZS and CJ's and you're almost there, but it somehow doesn't feel as good as either of the other #C64 titles. The ponderous speed is one thing, the iffy collision-detection is another. But that said, this is still a fairly adequate platformer. Nice.

Dizzy games for me, by the time this came out on the #C64 in 1992, were a little "meh" and I never had this, not least as it was also the first full price Dizzy game. Farmed out, not done by The Oliver Twins... Is it any good? The reviews say yes... 🤔
