#MPsizeBase is openly accessible in Gsheet and xls formats: get.omp.eu/mpsizebase/ and includes abundant metadata (sample type, method, lat, lon..). MPsizeBase users can cite doi’s of the preprint and archived Zenodo vs. You can also upload MP data online in a Gsheet, or xls template.
#MPsizeBase is a tool where you can convert your #FTIR MP number concentrations in the 100-1000um range to the full 1-5000um range, or any other range, such as 1-100um for atmospheric models. You can convert number to mass concentrations and vice versa.

Yet, few studies (<5%) publish raw data. 2. In #MPsizeBase we fit the power law to cumulative binned PSD data. 50 studies and 100 PSDs are fitted for MP in the surface and deep ocean, and in the atmosphere.
#MPsizeBase builds on the existing power law data alignment framework by @w-u-r.bsky.social. Its novelty lies in correcting for binning bias: PSD power law slopes vary with the choice of MP bin size in published PSD histograms (video). This is a disaster for data alignment.
#MPsizeBase compiles published #microplastic particle size distributions (PSDs), obtained by optical microscopy, #FTIR, #Raman and #pyGCMS. We fit the PSDs with a power law, and extrapolate MP number and mass concentration to a common size range for intercomparison.
We are launching @cnrs.fr a new open access #microplastics database, called #MPsizeBase, which aligns MP concentration data of different size ranges, to make studies intercomparable.
