Madison council hears technical briefing on lake health, leaf collection and salt-use tradeoffs City staff told the Common Council that Madison-area lakes remain impaired under federal listings, outlined regulatory limits (MS4/WPDES/TMDL), and described operational tradeoffs: scheduled leaf collection that captures much of the city’s fall phosphorus load, limits of mechanical versus vacuum sweepers, and the environmental limits of road salts; council adopted one procedural item earlier in the meeting.
