2-1 at tonight's #MagicMates #ECL draft with a very solid Merfolk deck. Abandoned first 3 picks for a Deepchannel Duelist and got rewarded. Had some explosive convoke turns with the 1 drops.
Lost a close match 1-2 to the 3-0 Elves deck (mull to 5 plus a slow hand on the draw).

We've had some similar discussions on our #MagicMates Discord. The combination of 7 wins instead of 6 and only 1 loss combined with Bo1 means you have to get very lucky to avoid getting knocked out by regular variance.
Here's 2 of my drafts that were strong but lost at 6-1 because of a bad draw.

1-0-2 at tonight's #MagicMates #ECL draft (almost pulling off the 0-0-3).
My seat was very white and was helped by opening Ajani P1P1. Didn't see much power so specced on the Eclipsed Merrows that I saw which ended up making the deck.
Just took forever to close games which led to the draws.

2-0-1 at tonight's #MagicMates #ECL draft with WG. Kinbinding P1P1 but stayed very open until P3 when a late Brigid's Command made it clear Kithkin was open.
Ended up playing Morcant's Eyes as my 23rd because I wanted a way to dig for the Kinbinding. I had no elves but 6 changelings.

Cast Deceit on T4 off Smokebraider twice (and won both those games).
Lost to the Figure of Destiny Kithkin twice because I couldn't find any of my removal.

G1 I popped off with 7 creatures on T3.
Flooded hard in R2 but rallied in the finals against the other 2-0 player (6 person pod).
Silvergill Mentor as busted as I thought. Quite liked the convoke 5/6 Treefolk too. Missed any convoke spells

2-1 with a decent UB #TLA deck at tonight's #MagicMates draft. Had some heavy hitting bombs and lots of early game but felt like it could have been soft to removal.
Lost in the finals because I couldn't find a removal or pump spell after drawing 6 cards 🤷🏽♀️

🏆 3-0 with a pretty mediocre WR #TLA deck at tonight's #MagicMates draft. First picked Uncle Iroh and it was definitely the best card in my deck.
Getting the sense that for the most part aggro has the upper hand in this format.

2 Tutelage effects plus a boatload of card draw (including Brainstorm and Brainsurge) plus a counter suite with Force of Will and Mana Drain.

🏆 3-0 in a #MagicMates Duskmourn "scare draft" with UGr inevitability.
During the draft we all sleeved one card face down after taking our first pick from the pack. Made for some interesting packs! I opened mine 4th and got a Threats Around Every Corner. Person next to me opened 2 basics 😂

🏆 3-0 at tonight's Not Spider-Man #MagicMates draft with a strong WR vintage cube deck.
Felt unfair that the deck with busted Lotus, Ocelot Pride etc. starts also got to grind like hell with Phlage and Skullclamp.
MH3 white cards are pretty broken.

2-1 at last night's #MagicMates #EOE draft with big RG. Started heavy red and then moved into green rather hesitantly before it was super open in pack 3, including a P3P12 Galactic Wayfarer!
Decided to run 18 lands in the end. Could have won the 3rd match but made a misplay with my Onslaught target

2-1 at the first #EOE #MagicMates draft with BR. Close to a 3-0 after being carried by one ridiculous rare and one very good one (Possibility Technician). Pegging Mutinous Massacre for best rare in the set...every time I cast it I won the game instantly.

Undefeated (2 wins and draw with @charlieboyd.bsky.social) in last night's #MagicMates team draft using my Peasant cube with a fun WRbg tokens deck.
Heirloom Epic was outstanding here, plus the synergy with Intangible Virtue and Veteran Beastrider.
Retreat to Emeria also felt very good.

🏆 3-0 at our #MagicMates #FIN draft with the best Brainstorm deck I've had outside of cube.
The synergy with Magitek Infantry was amazing; obviously a shuffle effect but also being able to put copies I drew back into the library.
I also had a nice flash synergy with the counterspells. Oh and Dion.

2-1 (a misplay cost me the 3-0 and $50) with a tight BR #FIN deck at our #MagicMates draft. Ragavan was nice but the deck had great staying power despite lacking removal. Had OP at 1 in both games I lost in the finals.
Rare redraft was also stacked with value for a 6 player pod!

Thunder Magic was really strong. Call Mountain Chocobo also felt great.

A somewhat lucky 2-1 in our final #TDM #MagicMates draft. Commiserations to @darcanis.bsky.social who was one finals match away from knocking me out of qualifying for the 2025 Cup but fell just short.

Match 3, game 3 OP slammed an Elspeth they hadn't cast all night which was a real surprise.

Finished 1-2 at last night's #MagicMates draft with a decent BG #TDM deck. It was the clear open lane for me but still underperformed (although went to game 3 every round). I think the problem with this archetype is it only works if you draw the cards in the right order at the right time.

Ended up solidly midrange with not enough support to make the double Glacierwood Siege work (I did side it in one match).

🏆 3-0 at tonight's #MagicMates #TDM draft with UGbr cheap spells and deck looping.
Sided out Sentinel against the Mardu matchup but it did work in the others.
I even got to flash delve harmonize a Glacial Dragonhunt 😆

🏆3-0 at tonight's #TDM #MagicMates draft with Mardu (base RW).
Devotee was insanely good (wish I'd picked the 3rd). Elspeth obviously broken the games I drew it. Double Defeat was pretty backbreaking too.
4 drops were interchanged frequently out of the SB (I actually think Yeti was the best).

2-0-1 at tonight's #MagicMates #TDM draft with 5c no rares (really Temur splashing white and black for the Dragonsbrood Relic).
Relic was medium to be honest. Bewildering Blizzard was fantastic though. Tiger into another 5 drop was also a good stabilising play.
