I learned of the passing of #MarcGarneau at the Space Canada Horizons event last Wednesday. Gasps wafted through the room when the sad news was announced. Marc Garneau's intellect, humility, and dedication to public service inspired countless people including me. My thoughts are with his family.
Marc Garneau is a Canadian politician, retired astronaut, and engineer, born on Feb 23, 1949, in Quebec City. He became Canada’s first astronaut, flying three NASA Space Shuttle missions between 1984 - 1996. 🕊️🌺

I had the privilege of meeting #MarcGarneau around the time I was first breaking into science writing and it was so exciting meeting a real astronaut. He was one of Canada's first ever astronauts, and flew on Shuttle Mission STS-41G in 1984.
