A poster in the style of the movie Marty Supreme but it says, "Marimo Supreme (-ly interesting plant). A table tennis paddle in a disembodied hand bats a marimo imposingly towards the viewer.
Marty Supreme himself bats a marimo like a table tennis ball. Text reads: "The Marimo, or Aegagropila brownii, is a uniquely ball-shaped species of algae found living in the bottom of lakes in Japan, Iceland, and across Northern Europe.
The initial type species, described in 1843, was named A. linneai. It moved around between genera, and eventually returned from a subgenus of Cladophora back to its own genus: Aegagropila.
More importantly, one of its native names in
Ainu is torasampe, or 'lake goblin'.
They are often called “moss balls” though they
are not moss. But they might be goblins."
The same image, but this time Marty is beneath a pile of marimos. Text reads, "Forget your table tennis balls, Timmy, and keep your eye on these balls. These algae balls."
Trade in your orange balls for green ones and learn about these fascinating algae growths! The Marimo could be the true star of the show. #MartySupreme #Marimo
