It's this. His instant response is always deny/protect himself. It's habitual. Then lie about the thing if people keep questioning. Tell them what they want to hear to shut them up. Next. Everyone saying he's confused and demented because he "doesn't know that they looked at in the MRI" hasn't been paying attention. At all. Same goes here.
