Measure A Will Keep Our Local Hospitals and ERs Open The Crisis A new federal law (H.R.1), signed by Trump and Congress, will slash $1.3 billion from Santa Clara County's healthcare system. That's more than the combined annual budgets of O'Connor, Regional and St. Louise hospitals. The county is already cutting back. Without Measure A, hospitals could close, ERs could shut down and life-saving care would be on the chopping block. Together with Valley Medical Center, these hospitals provide nearly half of all ER care in the county, including two of three trauma centers. The stakes are real: • Medi-Cal patients could lose urgent care and regular doctors. Privately insured patients could face longer ER waits, fewer hospital choices and higher premiums. The Solution Measure A is a short-term fix to keep hospitals open: Temporary sales tax for 5 years only Every dollar stays here in Santa Clara County Protects ER access, keeps doctors on staff and ensures patients get care • Strict oversight guarantees funds are spent as promised This isn't forever.
