Common Cosmos ‘Candy Stripe’ – A Burst of Nature’s Art
In the peaceful flower garden of Riding Mountain National Park, I came across this stunning Common Cosmos, Mexican Aster ‘Candy Stripe’ (Cosmos bipinnatus). I photographed it with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV using my 100–400mm lens at 400mm, ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/80s, paired with an ND filter and polarizer. The overcast sky created perfect diffused lighting, allowing me to capture the soft pink-and-white petals in incredible detail.
The yellow center is accented with delicate black dots, while the background melts away into a dreamy bokeh — isolating this single bloom in its full glory. This image reminds me why I love photographing flowers: their beauty is fleeting, yet timeless when captured in the right moment.
