Assorted great aunts and families
My husband’s grandfather was ahead of his time in using an ordinary camera to record milestones in the family. These were some of several photos of his bombed house in Bootle. They never returned to it.
The Lusitania features in the story. A great uncle was a steward on the ship for several years. We have more photos and silk cards. Dan left just before it was sunk only to die in the merchant navy soon after.
My husband’s grandad was a keen artist. He sent several of these sketches in blue and orange crayon from the Front . I assume that’s all the tools he had, as he wrote on one of” this would have been better in watercolours’
We don’t have a single painting! Such a shame.
