as a warm glow bathes the entire scene, we see a top-down view of layton's office, with laytonnow in full colour like his friends, sitting and chatting with the gang over mugs of hot cocoa. the story ends with a new picture on his table: layton sitting with his stansbury friend group, all of them smiling for the camera. in front of it sits a mug of hot cocoa.

post lost future. a wide shot of the hallway focusing on layton's office door, before going in to a wide shot of layton sitting at his office table. on his desk sits a framed picture of him, emmy, and luke. he picks it up and looks at it wistfully while resting his head in his free hand.
layton, still sitting at his desk, lowers the picture and stares out the snowy window sadly, feeling lonely. he's snapped back to his senses as someone knocks on his office door, causing him to turn around.
layton opens the door, only to come face-to-face with randall. randall's standing at the doorway, smiling widely, wearing a coat and red scarf with a gift underneath his arm, and drawn in colour unlike layton. layton seems surprised, a warm glow now present in his frame.
randall turns around and calls to the rest of the stansbury friend group as layton peers over and is now also starting to gain colour. henry, dalston, angela, and randall are all there; henry is holding up a tin of hot cocoa mix, while the others carry presents. layton takes a moment, before a smile slowly spreads on his face, his colours now brighter.
