Wanted to read more this year, so kicked it off with #Murtagh by @christopherpaolini.bsky.social

Loved the inheritance books growing up, so was real excited to see he'd released a followup!

Finished it a couple of days ago and really liked it! May even be my new favorite from the series

The cover of Murtagh, Book 5 of the Inheritance Cycle. On the cover says "Internationally bestselling author of Eragon. Christopher Paolini. Murtagh." A man with his face concealed under a cloak holds a red sword in his hands with a red dragon with red eyes behind him. Both are staring at the reader.

I am a mad woman and finished reading #Murtagh in one sitting. I dropped the book years ago due to life stuff and spent all day reading the remaining <300 pages.

Book good. Get series. Buy side stories. Buy Murtagh. So good.

Fae’s vtuber model next to the cover of the fork, the witch, and the worm by Christopher paolini

I think Tales from Alagaësia was the perfect way to ease back into the world Christopher Paolini created more than a decade ago, which makes me sad that I didn't know it existed until after I'd read Murtagh. It introduces context and story beats I thought I'd long forgotten in a very charming way. I like the wrap-around story a lot too. It's not often that we get to see what happens after the heroes are victorious and there's something very humorous about dreading paperwork more than an evil king and his big scary dragon. It also hit me at the exact right moment, and I think Eragon's struggle to find time for himself as part of the greater good is something I really relate to. It's not necessary reading by any means but I think you're doing yourself a disservice by not checking it out.

light spoilers for Murtagh: HE KNEW THE ENTIRE TIME???

It’s been well over a decade since I entered the world of Alagaësia, and the re-entry isn’t as smooth as I was hoping but fun nonetheless.

Murtagh features our favorite brooding, not so bad, boy from the Inheritance series, except this time his trauma makes him. Just kinda sad and contemplative. Which isn’t bad, and we do see flashes of the rage we’ve known he possesses, there’s just not a whole lot for him to do with those thoughts and emotions well into the story.

Murtagh, the book, drags on much more than I was expecting it to, and it took me a long while to remember the plot points and characters I hadn’t interacted with in years. I won’t lie. I read the wiki summaries of the eragon books just to remember what all had happened, and thankfully by the end my brain was firing off side plots and so much more that it pushed me to get through the more meandering parts of the book. I love his and Thorn’s relationship, and I feel for their fear and anxiety. The growth they gain in processing that hurt is mostly satisfying, and then it ends pretty abruptly. I think this was a good test entry back into Alagaësia, hopefully future entries can move forward with the lessons learned here.

After many years it was nice to go back to the world of #eragon! while #murtagh didn't hit the way I wanted it to, #TalesFromAlagaesia was a fun way to dive into some slice of life. If you haven't ready Inheritance in a while it may help to do a wiki dive first. #bookreview #fantasynovel #dragons

Finished this one. Was surprised to see it more as a one-off adventure as opposed to the start of a new series. However, not only was it nice to return to this world, it also dose set up things for future stories as well as expand more on Murtagh and Thorn's characters. #booksky #Eragon #Murtagh.

MY favorite thing about Murtagh is that he hates cooking, enough that it comes up multiple times in his book.

"Hm, it's shitty pub food, the beer is basically water, and the soup is effectively a single carrot.

SCORE."

Me too bro, me too.

I'm the kind of person who reads books out of order. Not entirely intentionally, but it happens. Thus, I am 90% of the way through _Murtagh_ , which is a book about a character in the original _Eragon_ book. Have I ever read _Eragon_? Nope. Should I probably do so? Yeah.

I do not know why but it was so hard for me to sit down and listen to this book start to finish. Murtagh felt deflated? Which don’t get me wrong makes sense for his character, he was constantly in survival mode for his entire life so now that there’s no danger, he feels aimless

But again, the years between Inheritance and Murtagh have allowed Paolini to really enhance and get better at his world building and delicate handling of very serious topics. I can't wait to finish it and see what's next for Alagaesia.

Eragon book cover featuring the blue dragon Saphira!

I started up a new comfort classic fantasy series from my younger years!

This time it's Eragon!

I've reread it a bunch of times but not since the sequel/spin off Murtagh released last year.

Really looking forward to it!

Such a great book!!! I did have to take a break for a few months because it got real dark there for a bit. But I finished it and it was amazing!
