The imposing Victorian building that once housed Leeds Workhouse and is now home to Thackray Museum of Medicine, set against a sky of ominous black clouds.
A photo of me giving a tour to visitors on Thackray Museum's Victorian Disease Street.
The dirty, infectious slum streets of Victorian Leeds as recreated in Thackray Museum's Disease Street
The slum street privies at Thackray Museum of Medicine. I took this picture at Christmas, so the unhygienic scene is lifted by garlands of plastic winter greenery and the pigeons perched on the privy roof are in miniature Christmas hats.
It's a dark and stormy Saturday, so where better to explore the city streets than indoors (and in the 19th century) at Thackray Museum of Medicine? Easily the best place to visit for fans of disease and decay. (And lots of more modern medical marvels).
