England was terrible in #LIVEVE, and controversial in #NEWARS (forcing Gillett's hand in the penalty call), so there is concern here.
[3/8] Only 2 weeks before, in #NEWARS, Gillett gave a penalty (correctly, by the way) but Darren England at VAR insisted and forced him to overturn the decision, despite not being convinced (see the released audio).
This episode must have stuck with him, and in #CRYBOU he wasn't going to repeat it
[7/7] And you may remember that Joelinton applauded Gillett after being booked in the recent #NEWARS, but was not sent off despite this being the obvious outcome by the Letter of the Law.
So, why does it look like Newcastle regularly benefit from a special positive treatment?
I want to use the penalty incident in #FULARS to talk about "clear and obvious error".
In this game, as in #NEWARS, the on-field decision was penalty but VAR decided otherwise, even going to extreme length to convince the referee, as England did with Gillett (bsky.app/profile/pgmo...).

[5/5] So there are several "mitigating factors" in this scenario that justify a yellow card rather than a red.
Personally, I also believe Gillett needed to make a point after England forced him to overturn his decision in #NEWARS while he still wasn't convinced of a clear error (from the audio)

And then, as ref, the free kick in #CHECRY and the Merseyside derby.
Darren England has not covered himself in glory in just 7 weeks 🤦
It usually takes a while for events to be discussed in the Match Officials Mic'd Up show with Webb, but since they immediately showed the #NEWARS penalty, I don't see why the Salah handball should not have been discussed too.
And yet it was not, as if it didn't happen.

I don't lean on conspiracy theories, but PGMOL made this a very hard case with the decisions of the weekend.
The absurd errors in #CRYLIV with the Salah handball and the penalty incident in #NEWARS (with a known Liverpool supporter as ref) seem to indicate a mandate to favour LFC. And yet... [1/10]
I must say, I’ve never heard a home crowd at 1-1 not cheer when it was announced there was 8 minutes injury time like yesterday
