DRINKING WATER SUPPLY UPDATE 3/5/26

Despite the winter storm occurring on 2/22, below‑average precipitation throughout the winter has provided limited improvement to water‑supply conditions. As a result, New Jersey remains under a Statewide Drought Warning. Sustained, above‑average rainfall is needed to ease current water‑supply stresses. All New Jersey residents are encouraged to practice water conservation and Use Water Wisely.

NJ Rainfall totals this week
Between 0.5 and 3.2 inches of precipitation were observed between last week’s Drinking Water Supply Indicators (2/20/26) and this week’s (2/27/26).

NJDEP continues to monitor the situation closely, updating the indicators weekly, and keeping the public informed as conditions evolve.

DRINKING WATER SUPPLY UPDATE 2/4/26

The indicators this week incorporate the precipitation observed from Winter Storm Fern on January 25. While that storm provided large amounts of snowfall (more than ten inches in much of the state), due to the ongoing cold weather, much of that snow is still frozen in place, and has only offered marginal benefits to water supply to date. Furthermore, consistent precipitation is still needed to improve conditions. New Jersey remains in a Statewide Drought Warning. All New Jerseyans are requested to follow water conservation practices, and to Use Water Wisely.
