Spent the weekend doing the NSW RFS Wildfire Behaviour course (1 of 4 courses that make up the Advanced Firefighter qualification). I passed! One down 3 to go!

54 NSW specialists are departing Sydney this morning to support efforts against >200 wildfires burning across #Canada. 36 x #NSWRFS, 16 x #NPWS and 2 x Forestry.
They join a 96-strong Australian contingent deploying for around 5 weeks. Safe travels crews. @AFACnews

Went out on an ambo assist today. A bit chaotic - involving an older community member - nothing catastrophic thankfully.
Anyhoo - check in on your elderly family members or neighbours, especially if they have been recently bereaved - grief & loneliness are a terrible combination.

Glad I submitted my writing last night, because this morning has been hectic.
Call out for an ambulance assist on a property out of town, then back to the rec ground to prep for the helicopter.

Went out on my first "live fire" call today. All ended well, but a sad situation involving non-English speaking older folks who were unaware that pile burns need a permit this time of year (and a good water supply on hand!). Total fire ban here tomorrow. Keep hydrated & check on the oldies

Pride Flag. NSW RFS Comment. Thank you all for your feedback about the current RFS profile picture. Our members come from many different backgrounds and cultures and we value inclusion in the RFS workplace. During the week of Sydney Mardi Gras, we show our support for LGBTQIA+ members of the RFS and members of the community by using the pride flag on social media and participating in the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade. Our participation in the Parade began in 2007 and we are proud to support these historically marginalised communities. We support this event alongside numerous other emergency services and government agencies, and will continue to do so into the future.

As of 6pm today 27 December, there are currently 69 bush and grass fires across the state, with 36 not yet contained. A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow 28 December in Northern Slopes. There has been approximately 120,000 lightning strikes in NSW in the last 24 hours which have ignited new bush and grass fires. It's important to report unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).
