I have #NVLD, which is very similar to #autism but just different enough to make me part of no community. One thing I am not good at, at all, is figuring out facial expressions and other forms of non-verbal communication, hence, NVLD: non verbal learning disorder.

Nonverbal learning disability (NVLD) is a long-recognized but unofficial diagnosis for kids who have difficulty with visual-spatial processing. Now it’s being reframed as developmental visual-spatial disorder (DVSD) to clarify what the core deficit is and reduce confusion over the name.

A new study led by Amy Margolis, PhD, of The Ohio State University — in collaboration with researchers at the Child Mind Institute — may help to improve diagnostic criteria for NVLD and guide more individualized approaches to care for children and families.

Fun (not haha) fact I just learned about myself at age 28: I have the same disability as Gus Walz; #NVLD.
Thanks to Tim and Gus Walz I’ve just seen the first person in the media like my son - never heard of #NVLD (just the individual diagnoses) but that’s the box of tricks bubbling round in our son too. Also prone to being my biggest fan club 🤣 ❤️
