ENGIE’s strategy of expanding fossil gas + its lack of commitment to phase out gas raise doubts about its ability to contribute to achieving carbon neutrality in the electricity production sector by 2035 in advanced economies and by 2040 in other countries, as projected in the IEA’s #NZE scenario.

To be coherent with a net-zero trajectory such as the IEA’s #NZE scenario, banks should allocate $6 to sustainable alternatives for power supply for each dollar allocated to fossil fuels, by 2030.

Tomorrow the @IEA is going to publish their new World Energy Outlook (#WEO2021), and it'd be a shame if they didn't include a prominent 1.5C-aligned pathway, building on the Net Zero Emissions by 2050 (#NZE) one they released earlier this year. #StayTuned
To recap: as long as the #IEA allowed for fossil fuel expansion, every oil & gas company/investor was quick to refer to the #WEO as the benchmark. As soon as they ruled out that expansion in the #NZE 1.5C pathway, they all clung to #IPCC overshoot scenarios. #GraspingAtStraws
