ReconAfrica says Kavango drilling is on schedule Chamwe Kaira  Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd says drilling of the Kavango West 1X exploration well remains on schedule and expects to reach total depth by the end of November. The well spudded on 31 July. Brian Reinsborough, president and chief executive officer, said the operations team in Namibia is making steady progress. “We anticipate entering the Otavi reservoir, the primary target for the Damara Fold Belt Play, in October and plan to penetrate over 1500 metres of potential reservoir section. We look forward to reporting results of this play opening well to all stakeholders around year-end,” he said.  The well is currently drilling the 8.5-inch section at a depth of about 1910 metres.  The next and final casing string will be set at around 2400 metres before drilling into the Otavi reservoir zone in October.  The plan is to drill about 1 500 metres of the reservoir before reaching a total depth of between 3 800 and 4 250 metres. ReconAfrica is a Canadian oil and gas company exploring the Damara Fold Belt and Kavango Rift Basin in the Kalahari Desert of northeastern Namibia, southeastern Angola and northwestern Botswana.  The company holds petroleum licences and access to 13 million contiguous acres.  It says its work is guided by international standards with minimal disturbance to habitat and adherence to environmental and social best practices. On the Namibia side of the play, ReconAfrica has mapped 19 prospects and four leads.  The area is estimated to hold 2.6 billion barrels of unrisked prospective light and medium crude oil resources and 157 million barrels of risked prospective resources from the Damara Fold Belt play prospects on PEL 73. The company recently signed an agreement with the Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels of Angola (ANPG) for a joint exploration project in the Etosha-Okavango basin in southeastern Angola.  This adds 5.2 million contiguous acres in Angola to the 6.3 million acres already held in Namibia, strengthening ReconAfrica’s position in the Damara Fold Belt and Rift Basin exploration plays. Youth forum launches energy awards Staff Writer The Namibia Youth Energy Forum (NYEF) will host the Namibia Energy Connect and Energy Trailblazer Awards 2025 from 4 to 5 November at Droombos in Windhoek. NYEF said the initiative is not a conventional energy summit but a national platform designed to bring together Namibia’s energy leaders for reflection, collaboration, and celebration.  “It is the first of its kind, uniting stakeholders from oil and gas, renewable energy, green hydrogen, and energy services to shape the country’s energy future.” the forum stated  The event is expected to attract over 1,000 participants, including energy companies, service providers, government leaders, youth, academia, and businesses from across sectors.  NYEF said it will serve as a space for dialogue, partnership building, and showcasing Namibia’s energy potential. One key feature of the gathering will be the Energy Trailblazer Awards, which will recognise individuals and institutions for their contributions to the energy industry.  Awards will highlight innovation, leadership, sustainability, and impact. “This is something bold and strategic rooted in youth empowerment, sustainable development, reflection, and partnership building. It is  about honouring excellence and creating a space where Namibia’s energy future is shaped by collaboration and vision,” said Andreas Paulus, the director of NYEF. The Namibia Youth Energy Forum is a national platform committed to empowering youth and promoting inclusive development in the energy sector. Earlier this year, NYEF held a high-level meeting with the Office of the President to advocate for youth-centred energy policies.  The engagement focused on local content development, policy formulation, and sector transformation. The Presidency reaffirmed the government’s commitment to youth empowerment, inclusivity, and sustainable economic growth.
