Original post on mastodon.sdf.org

#Netlogo is a pretty great system for investigating complex dynamical interacting systems using code and user interface that's accessible even to middle school kids, or even to some extent grade school (I know, I literally tried it out just before the pandemic with 4th graders).

There's the […]

This Professor Won the ‘Nobel for Education.’ Here's What His Work Means for Educators (Opinion) What skills do students need to make sense of complex systems in the age of AI?

How do you make complex systems accessible to kids?

Uri Wilensky, creator of #NetLogo, has an answer: let them build and experiment with their own agent-based models using a representation system that is easy-to-learn yet powerful.

Also endlich geht's mal etwas zielgerichteter weiter.

Im Kern bräuchte eine Hybrid-Simulation: #InsightMaker für die makroskopische Systemdynamik (Kapazitäten, Backlogs, Verzögerungen, Rückkopplungen) plus #NetLogo für das mikroskopische Verhalten (Menschen/Teams, Skills, Anreize, ↩️🧵

My new model in development is way too computationally intensive (millions of grid cells with daily environmental variable updates, times 10,000+ of agents' behaviors). #NetLogo (I still love NetLogo) cannot help me with this task.

We're biased, but we recommend #NetLogo :)

As for arguments, though, the automatic visualization and immediate interactivity really help with verifying your model is actually doing what you intend.

Very cool model! I'm implementing a #NetLogo version, and I have a question: is there a real distinction between h_in vs h_out and γ_in vs γ_out, or could there just be 4 arbitrary traits? Since any link can be harmful or helpful based on harm/help ratio, the traits seem arbitrary.
