One thing I’d love the world (including the mental health world) to understand about #neurodiversity, especially #ADHD, is that some of the “problematic” traits or symptoms being discussed or highlighted these days aren’t attributable to the #neurotype.

living with my #neurotype gives me many superpowers:
1) incredible resilience in the face of horrors and adversity
2) boundless creativity and the ability to connect experiences in unlikely ways
3) amazing energy levels that allow me to do a lot of work in the fraction of the time
But most people are still figuring out how/why they shouldn't use #levels and #pathology and #neuronormativity as standards when we already know this is a unique #neurotype and often, a unique #phenotype, as well.
We need lifetime systems that meet us where we are and simultaneously, rigorously /🧵

#neurotype leads to thinking that brains & bodies have distinct 'boundaries', but biology doesn't work like that. Current labels are far from clearcut & social constructions, that will change over time. Understanding identity is however important for connection & community. Self discovery is valid.
Don't focus on the #neurodivergence but rather the person - "How do I help staff with AHDH?" NO.
Try instead "How do I help, Sara, who has xyz #neurotype."
