Quote from C. E. S. Wood (ca. 1927): "In my youth, as an Army officer I chased and killed Indians driven to revolt by the oppressions of the vague thing called 'the Government.' Looking deeper, I saw that 'Government' was in fact a corrupt gang which defrauded the Indian and drove him to open revolt...I found I must obey the orders of men whose intellects I could not respect, who were themselves only puppets and were idolaters of 'the Government' and its emblem 'the flag,' regardless of acts done in violation of all the traditions of the flag."
