To protect farmland and still scale up clean energy, China is rapidly expanding offshore solar farms—installing massive solar panel arrays over the sea instead of occupying fertile land.
These floating and offshore solar projects help keep agricultural land free for food production while generating large amounts of renewable electricity. The approach also reduces land-use conflicts, cuts carbon emissions, and supports China’s long-term energy security goals.
By combining ocean space with solar technology, China is showing how countries with limited land can balance food security + clean energy growth at the same time.
