Black and white 1:10000 map of Cramond from the Almond to Muirhouse including Silverknowes golf course

Woodland in Winter with a burn disappearing into a culvert. Two rhododendron bushes either side of the water add a little green.

Five colour drawn orienteering map of a smallish area of Caledonian pine forest and boggy moorland. South side of Loch Rannoch. Half a course is drawn on it. I

A mature Scots pine on a sunny grass slope against a blue sky. There is a fence marked with chestnut paling beyond, the paling there to make the fence visible to grouse. Beyond the fence are birches. Coille Mhòr, Perthshire

Coille Mhòr, Loch Rannoch 1975. Very enjoyable going so far into the Highlands. Much of the area is Caledonian pine wood . I have just realised that it was mapped because #UniversityOfStirling had an outdoor centre there. #OldOrienteeringMaps #OMaps #FVO

Two copies of a course (M19L Blue-brown probably) in a small runnable finely contoured area. Big clearing in the middle, otherwise mostly white. Scribed 1:10,000 scale.

View of a once coppiced oakwood with little ground vegetation. Lots of many trunked small trees and the floor red with fallen leaves.

Five colour orienteering map with the green being that attractive bluish shade favoured by EBOR at the time. Beautifully scribed. Mostly white with a deep valley in the north.

Staindale 1980 (Dalby). Nearest I got to an international appearance - represented SOA in the interregional champs. Was cut to bits by new shoes. Like Terry Butcher but at the other end. #OldOrienteeringMaps #OMaps #NorthYorkMoors

Five colour scribed orienteering map, very green in appearance.

Someone walking away from the camera on a gravel road. The road is running through dense commercial forestry with the odd bit of birch wood on the edge

1 to 15000 five colour orienteering map of a mainly runnable forest.

Four colour orienteering map without a green screen. Unusual use of a yellow screen to show a complex unsurveyed area. The scale is incorrect, a frequent occurrence with this map and has been corrected to 1 to 16666.

A small 1 to 10000 scribed orienteering map. It is unusual in that runnable forest is shown using a green screen. There is no white. The forest is mostly runnable.

Torrieston 1983. Intended for a permanent course there is no white areas, the runnable forest is shown as green. Supposedly less confusing for the target audience but they still kept yellow for open. #OldOrienteeringMaps #Moravian #Omaps #Orienteering

Scribed orienteering map extract. half runnable woodland on gentle slopes the rest open heathland. The course (between blue and brown, M17A) keeps to the woodland.

Extract from a 1:15000 scribed orienteering map. There is one large open area which was not available for this event. The forest is steep, rocky with contour detail and a fair bit of light green.
