Weekend repost ICYMI, some thoughts on this year’s OpenEd conference! #OpenEd24 #OER #OpenEducation #OpenPedagogy
📣 Attn Aus/NZ open edders! #OEGlobal has a webinar in our time zone! 😱🤩
Wed 30 Oct at 10:30 ACDT (10am AEST, 1pm NZDT), get the best of both worlds by hearing from organisers of both #OpenEd24 and OEGlobal Conference!
(Plus, I’ll be there 🙊)

Finally got around to watching a recording of Robin DeRosa's brilliant "Against Hope" session from #opened24. It is the provocation I was hoping for from that conference, which overall made me uncomfortable with the way it framed the work of “open” as resistance. bit.ly/AGAINSTHOPE
The rocky shore of a bay is featured, with the bluest of water, and fluffy clouds scattered about.
Last week was #opened24 and it was a delight. The people. The content. I have so many words, but for now, I’m going to leave this photo of a pocket of peace I found in providence.
For everyone I got to see at #OpenEd24 (whether via a hallway, meal, or session) thanks for making it a good one! It was lovely to meet so many of you and reconnect with others. #community #opened
Yes! Let’s make this happen and continue talking #OpenEd24 folks.
#OpenEd24 another year, another excellent conference!
Quote: Resist! We need to do it for all important social issues, but don’t forget to do it to protect yourself! - paraphrased from Amanda Coolidge #opened24
The word of the day is "polycrisis" #OpenEd24
If you didn't attend this #OpenEd24 session, you are really missing out! Toward the end of the discussion, the presenters are sharing this excellent set of initiatives: bit.ly/A_Critical_T...
Please reply to @openaccesselder.bsky.social ! Let’s rebuild that #opened #oer community online! #OpenEd24
What a great session at #OpenEd24. Wonderful to hear from students directly about their experiences with automatic textbook billing aka “inclusive or equitable access.”

After the mid-morning break at #OpenEd24, I am now attending "Open Education at a Crossroads" from the fabulous Catherine Cronin and Laura Czerniewicz! "The purpose of the session is to enable globally diverse conversations about the future of open education."
Whew! That was tougher, technologically speaking, than it should have been! 🤣 Here are the materials from our #OpenEd24 presentation: linktr.ee/LiC.anthology
In preparing for this event, Taryn worked with her students on the development of the Ready Bags, and started conversations with them about earthquakes and disaster preparedness. This became not just a support project, but also a teaching and learning experience! #OpenEd24
I’m nervous for our #OpenEd24 presentation! Maybe excited? Hungry? Anyways, hope folks can make it! We’ll be talking about a new platform approach to OER, and raising some questions about how print ghosts many literature OERs in some ways that may need to be rethought. 10am! sched.co/1gu81
So at PCC, they wanted to share our disaster preparedness kits (ready bags) along with information and resources about how to deal with earthquakes when they occur. How did they do it, though? #OpenEd24
Next up at #OpenEd24 I am attending "The Intersection of OER & Community Engagement: Increasing Equity Through the PCC Ready Bag Project" opened24.sched.com/event/1gu3H/
Huge props to Anita for providing so much context, information, and care in this talk in a short timeframe! It was easy to follow and fun to take notes on! #OpenEd24
Rights reversion can happen for many reasons (honoring the memory of a family member, preserving an important work which is out of print, making sure that others can find and teach with your book), and each of these reasons is valid! #OpenEd24
Anita follows this discussion of rights reversion with how she supports it in her context. Doing this requires building in new information (a new intro, updated metadata, new layout or design, a new cover, accessibility updates, etc). And of course, openly licensing the new output! #OpenEd24
And specifically, discussing how to navigate the topic of rights reversion for published works! This is an especially confusing topic, even for those of us who might be familiar with the publishing world or copyright generally. #OpenEd24
Back for the final day of #OpenEd24, I am attending "From Closed to Open: Laboring to Revert Rights and Republish Existing Works" from the amazing Anita Walz! opened24.sched.com/event/1gu3E/
My favourite quote from #opened24: “The question shouldn’t be how do we behave so we don’t trigger backlash, but rather how do we behave to trigger the backlash we want.”
Anyone else having the best time at #opened24? Heading back to work next week is going to be so inspiring yet humdrum. What a wonderful, motivating conference!
If you are at the final day of the Open Education Conference, please reply to this post or make your own post tagged #OpenEd24 and--at some point today-- ask someone if they're interested in joining BlueSky. Let's bring our people into a space where we can talk *after* the conference, too!
Having a great time at #opened24 . I'm pretty sure I do this every year and then get busy and do not follow through -- but our network is important. Virtual coffee date anyone?
Sooo happy that @actualham.bsky.social posted all their goodies here for #opened24: robinderosa.net/higher-ed/ag...
I *want* to go to the #OpenEd24 social at the arcade, but it’s now 7 and I’m…tired? Why is old?💀
