Open Peer Review

Whether double-blind or non-blind, Collabra:Psychology utilizes an open peer review process. This means that the correspondence and comments during the review process will be openly available in a single document along with the published article, if accepted. This is an unedited output of the comments on the peer review form and other interactions such as the author response letter, excluding any confidential comments to the editor by a reviewer. If the reviewer has signed his/her review, his/her identity will also be openly available.

Pillar 4: What is Open Peer Review? There is no agreed one definition of Open Peer Review. Generally, models of Open Peer Review revolve in opening one or more of the various aspects or processes involved in Peer Review. Some examples are: Open Identities - Authors and Reviewers are aware of each other identities Open Reports - Review reports are published alongside the relevant article (can be anonymous or open identity) Open Pre-Review Open Manuscripts - Manuscripts are made immediately available. For example, via pre print servers like Archive in advance of any formal peer review procedures. The benefits of Open Peer Review include: Encouraging constructive Peer Review and a wider dialogue. Reviewer comments puts paper in context with the wider field which provides deeper detail for the readers. Reduces bias among the Reviewers as Reviewers are held accountable for their comments. Support Early Career Researchers as published reports can serve as peer review examples for young researchers and ECRs can gain credit for their contributions. Transparent peer review to be extended to all of Nature’s research papers From today, all new submissions to Nature that are published will be accompanied by referees’ reports and author responses — to illuminate the process of producing rigorous science.

Just learned today that all Nature's published research papers will now have their peer-reviews accessible! #openpeerreview is becoming mainstream!

But if you want to make it for free you can still come to us instead of this big commercial publisher... 😜

Question for #metascience2025: Is there data that shows #OpenPeerReview is quantifiably "better," "faster" and/or pulls in new reviewers to alleviate the strain on the system? @prereview.bsky.social @andre-brasil.bsky.social? Can we show skeptics data that it helps w/ this crisis?

@cos.io also doesn't have a scalable model with #LifeCycleJournal yet. This is a pilot/experiment and it's not clear how to make it sustainable in the long term. #OpenPeerReview like many #openscience practices is EXPENSIVE and this community can't really address this.

Anna from @hhmi.org asking the big #OpenPeerReview question: What/who is peer review for? It's not just for the authors - peer reviewers benefit as well. So PRs have to be thoughtful about when they integrate AI in that process -- pubs/providers need to be clear on best practice

@hhmi.org TAP team is spending a LOT of resources to support trainees, specifically checking peer reviews, providing feedback, and encouraging cohort members to support each other. #openpeerreview includes a rubric for report assessment. This is a luxury - how do we make it scale?
