The black-and-white image depicts a scene from the early 20th century featuring two main establishments: "Nu Deel Sandwich Shoppe" and its adjacent garage. The shop displays signs for selling hamburgers, barbecue sandwiches, and soft drinks like Coca-Cola. An old-fashioned car is parked in front of the sandwich shop's entrance while another vintage vehicle with a visible license plate can be seen behind it near an antique gas pump from "Pruitt's Garage," which also offers oil changes. The setting appears to be on a rural road, likely indicative of life outside urban centers at that time period.

Posted on May 18th, 2025 by Pastor Jimmy Pruitt We __get__ to do this! When we woke up this morning, we hit the _lottery_ , because when we woke up, our heart was beating and we got another day to get on-mission with God! His Word is filled with _treasures_ – with gems and jewels that we sometimes have to work to discover. But God never hides anything _from_ us, he hides things __for__ us. _“It is the glory of God to conceal a_ matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.” (Proverbs 25:2 NIV) Psalms 33:12 NIV _“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.”_ **Good things that are happening in the News** * Texas Senate passes bipartisan bills to put prayer and the Ten Commandments back in schools • Lawmakers across the United States push for the Ten Commandments in public schools • Faith leaders from across the United States prayed over President Trump in the Oval Office • Pastor Jimmy will open the Texas Senate session in Austin with prayer on Thursday. (We need to keep praying that God will continue to bring his presence into our government proceedings!) • Christian revival is overtaking the entire world – Christianity is experiencing an immense global surge. In the United States, Bible sales are booming among Gen Z. In China, despite intense government persecution, growth of the underground Church is exploding. **Mission Possible – The great adventure continues** Acts 13:4 NLT – Paul’s first missionary journey _“So Barnabas and Saul were sent out by the Holy Spirit. They went down to the seaport of Seleucia and then sailed for the island of Cyprus.”_ God’s plan to spread Christianity all over the world is to use __us__ to be carriers of the “virus” of the Gospel of Jesus Christ – to be _super-spreaders_. He wants us to _infect_ everybody around us, because when we walk in, the fragrance and the aroma of Christ is on our life that is so different, because it’s the very aroma of Christ himself. Acts 13:12 NLT _“When the governor saw what had happened, he became a believer, for he was astonished at the teaching about the Lord.”_ Acts 13:13-15 NLT _“Paul and his companions then left Paphos by ship for Pamphylia, landing at the port town of Perga. There John Mark left them [quit] and returned to Jerusalem. But Paul and Barnabas traveled inland to Antioch of Pisidia. On the Sabbath they went to the synagogue for the services. After the usual readings from the books of Moses and the prophets, those in charge of the service_ _sent them this message: ‘Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, come and give it.’ ”_ The leaders of the synagogue gave an “open microphone” to Paul and Barnabas, who were excited and on fire after being commissioned by the Holy Spirit to go out and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Acts 13:44,45 NLT _“The following week almost the entire city turned out to hear them preach the word of the Lord. But when some of the Jews saw the crowds, they were jealous; so they slandered Paul and argued against whatever he said.”_ We are being invited to get on-mission with God on this great adventure. If our Christian life is boring, then we _don’t _have__ a Christian life, we only have a form or semblance of it – _“having a form of godliness but denying its power.”_(2 Timothy 3:5). Many people come to church, but they’re not on-mission with God. The question is, are we listening, hearing, and receiving? Some of us have a war going on in our head, as voices are speaking to us, saying, _“Oh don’t listen to _that!_ Oh, we’re still _stuck_ in the Book of Acts!” _And then the wind blows this way from Backwoods Bar-B-Que, and we’re thinking, _“Oh, I’ve got to go to lunch!”_ When we step out to get on-mission with God, there’s an initial surge of energy. The Holy Spirit comes on us, and we get excited, but then we’re met with resistance – things don’t go right, and it feels like everything’s suddenly _against_ us. That doesn’t mean it’s not the will of God, but we need to ask ourselves, _“ _Why_ is there resistance? Is it from a very real enemy, the devil, who opposes the Word and the will of God doing something in our life?”_ In fact, if things are _really_ quiet and peaceful with no resistance at _all_ , we might wonder if we’ve not missed a turn somewhere. But, when there __is__ resistance, we need to be excited because that means we’re _hitting_ something, and we shouldn’t step back thinking God’s telling us to turn around, when probably what he’s saying is _“Stay the course! Keep going! Keep pressing in!”_ When we come up against the storm of resistance, there are only two things we can do – we can _stop_ , like a deer in the headlights, or we can stay the course and go _through_. Some of us are in a storm right now, and we’re getting _hammered_. Everything in us is saying _“Stop!” w_ hen really we’re stirring things up and creating resistance because we’re moving _forward_ , and maybe God __led__ us to move that way. If so, and resistance is coming, God would say, _“Stay. The. Course. Don’t stop in the middle of the storm! Keep _going!_ ” _When deer stop on the highway out of fear instead of going on, there are dire consequences for them. If we’re meeting resistance, we also need to _keep going._ Acts 13:45,46 NLT _“But when some of the Jews saw the crowds, they were jealous; so they slandered Paul and argued against whatever he said. Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and declared, ‘It was necessary that we first preach the word of God to you Jews. But since you have rejected it and judged yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we will offer it to the Gentiles.’ ”_ Paul and Barnabas were meeting resistance, and they pushed on through. There’s a point we get to when we feel like we’re over the target and we confront resistance, but, if we’ll continue and stay the course, and we’re in God’s will – doing what God has called us to do, and we’re on mission – on the G _reat Adventure_ – then, we’re not only _over_ the target, we’ve __become__ the target, and that’s a whole other level of celebration. There are times we have to laugh because the enemy __always__ overplays his hand – he always overshoots the runway, and he always exposes himself. We can’t shoot a target we can’t see, but when we can see the target, the enemy exposes himself every time – he can’t help it – he’s really proud of his work. When he does that, we _know_ what to hit. When we share a prayer request, we’re exposing the enemy – we’re giving the circle of people around us the opportunity to stand with us and _fight_. Acts 13:47 NLT _“For the Lord gave us this command when he said,‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles, to bring salvation to the farthest corners of the earth.”_ We need to understand that he’s talking to _us_ – that is __our__ victory – that was for __our__ good. That’s why we’re here together _now_ , getting encouraged, getting inspired and motivated – getting taught and discipled. We’re here because this __happened.__ The interconnectivity of life and the timeline of life in the world – if this had not happened, we wouldn’t be sitting here today. This happened for _us – _today._ _As students of God’s Word, it is important to know our history. Otherwise, we’re doomed to repeat some ugly things. Acts 13:48 NLT _“When the Gentiles heard this, they were very glad and thanked the Lord for his message; and all who were chosen for eternal life became believers.”_ The Gentiles “stepped over the line.” They were no longer just God-_fearers,_ but they were actually now God-__lovers__. They __received__ him – they received the __Message__ which transformed them from the inside-out. Many people want to fix the _outside_ first. They want to get their “act together” before they come to church to avoid being labeled a hypocrite. But we can be in the church for ten years doing the best we can and _still_ be a hypocrite. That will _never_ go away – we’ll always be living in the tension between where we are now and where we ought to be and want to be. We’re not quite “there” yet! God is _working_ on us – we’re living out sanctification – we’re walking the walk and talking the talk – we’re learning and growing. We’re not there yet, but we _will be_ someday. We have _hope_ that we’re further along now than we were a week ago. We shouldn’t come to church thinking we’ve got it all cleaned up or think that we’ll _wait_ to come to church until we’ve got our _act_ cleaned up, because that will _never_ happen. Acts 13:49,50 NLT _“So the Lord’s message spread throughout that region. Then the Jews stirred up the influential religious women and the leaders of the city, and they incited a mob against Paul and Barnabas and ran them out of town.”_ If we think following Jesus is going to be easy, we’re mistaken. It’s _simple_ , but it’s not __easy__. There will be days when we wonder what we got ourselves _into_ – what did we say _“yes”_ to? There will be days when we hear a clear word and a sense of vision for what we’re supposed too do, and we step out and it all seams really good at first, but then we hit a snag – a choke-point – an F2 West Texas tornado – and suddenly everything looks like mud while the wind howls and people are quitting – like John Mark – but we have a responsibility to stay the course. Then, whenever something comes at us, we need to remind ourselves, _“Stay the course! Don’t quit!”_ And we continue to punch through the storm. We’ll get to the clearing eventually – and there __is__ a clearing coming. Acts 13:51,52 NLT _“So they shook the dust from their feet as a sign of rejection and went to the town of Iconium. And the believers were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.”_ This was a symbolic expression, literally saying, _“I don’t receive what you just said about me or identify me as. I know who I am, and I know Who I’m doing this for. I now shake the dust off my feet for a testimony against you!”_ But God is good. He can even make our enemies to be our friends. He can turn the hearts of the people we think we can’t get along with. He can turn their hearts. Scripture says, _“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.”_(Proverbs 21:1 13:51,52 NKJV) That’s our God. That’s our _Jesus_. He is good, forgiving, merciful, and gracious – and _that’s_ what we need so much of now! **Prayer** Father, in Jesus’ name, we’re asking for massive grace and massive mercy to be poured out upon us. Thank You for the power to save and the power to heal and the power to deliver. We pray for an amazing movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives as we pray for one another and share our needs with one another so the enemy won’t be able to separate and isolate us from the strength and unity with our family, the Church, or from Your Holy Spirit. We love You and honor You! In Jesus’ name. In "Flux" by American artist Robert Pruitt, an unidentified pregnant woman in bright red top and black pants sits on a boombox, her body adorned with timekeepers and talismans, as if ready and waiting to embark on a journey. The devices around her neck—including a circular clock and an African drum—relate to time, alluding to Pruitt’s fascination with time travel and a people’s ability to journey to a better place. On her right arm is an Akan Sankofa bird from Ghana, which symbolizes the need to look to the past to borrow what can help you make progress in the present and future.

Pruitt lives and works in Houston, Texas. He creates artwork that examines Black identity, and, more specifically, notions of African American liberation from social, economic, and psychological constraints. He explores self-determination and the notion of an idealized Black reality—an Afrofuturistic, utopian existence.

Pruitt’s influences are vast, drawing from science fiction, comic books, Black power ideology, and a romanticized notion of pre-colonial Africa. He also pays homage to pioneering visual artists like Charles White and Barkley L. Hendricks, and the cosmic philosophy of musicians such as Sun Ra and Parliament-Funkadelic. While using many different mediums, Pruitt connects all of his pieces with the allusion to the historical and contemporary examples of the African American experience.

God is moving on campuses across our nation. We need to celebrate that and fuel the fire any way we can. Good things are happening, and now we’ve been given a window of mercy. It really is our time to shine. One of the most dangerous things that can happen, where we’re the most vulnerable, is on the heels of a victory.

Whenever we cross a finish line, we have a tendency to drop our guard, but that’s when we need to be the most vigilant. We, as the Church of Jesus Christ, can become quite vulnerable after a perceived victory, and we have to be careful not to rest on the laurels of what feels like a big win in the election. This is not the time to relax. We should celebrate and be excited,

especially as the Christmas season is here, but at the same time, stay vigilant and spiritually aware.

However, it’s during times like this that the enemy loves to come in. For some of us, Christmas can bring up hard things and bad memories. The loss of a loved one during this season can kindle pain and grief, so, in the midst of our joy and celebration, we need to remain vigilant and aware that there are people around us that are hurting. We need to be sensitive to that with our friends, family, and co-workers who might be in distress and hurting.

1 Thessalonians 5:2-4 ESV – A Warning

“For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, ‘There is peace and security,’ then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.”

“If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.” – President Ronald Reagan, August 23, 1984

“We must recognize that God has given us Time, and now we must go and advance the Kingdom of God” – Tim Barton

This is our time to shine, and we need to stay on point

Acts 7:57-60 ESV – “Stephen: Messenger, Martyr, Missionary”

“But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him. Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’ And when he had said this, he fell asleep.”

Acts 1:8 ESV – Jesus’ Great Commission to the Church

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 8:1-3 ESV – Saul Persecutes the Church

“And Saul approved of his execution. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. Devout men buried Stephen and made great lamentation over him.

But Saul was ravaging [treat shamefully, injure, or ruin] the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison.”

Not only did the hammer of Rome come down upon them but also the hammer of the religious leaders came down on these followers of “the Way” – Christians – thousands of fledgling believers meeting openly and loudly in the public square. That began to cause a lot of problems in Jerusalem, and persecution started. Then, when even many of the priests began to believe, Saul said it all must be stopped in its tracks. It all started with the death of Stephen who became a martyr.

We, today, can diminish the impression of persecution because we’ve never really experienced it. We hear about it or read about people who are being persecuted and killed for their faith – more now than ever in the history of the world. Yet, we’re also seeing revival and spiritual awakening. In the Muslim nations of Iran and Iraq, God is moving through dreams and visions of “the Man in White”. All over the Middle East, people are getting saved.

God can use pain, suffering, and persecution if that’s what it takes to get His Word out. Even in the last four years in our nation, the Church began to wake up and come alive because things got dark and tough and were heading towards the edge of the cliff. We prayed more for America – for the administration to be born again, saved, and filled with the Holy Spirit, and to bring Truth and righteousness across our land. God answered our prayer and things went well in the election and the danger now is that we’ll start to relax and let our guard down. We have to be vigilant.

Samaria was getting “lit up” with the Gospel

Acts 8:4-8 ESV – Philip Proclaims Christ in Samaria

“Now those who were scattered went about preaching the Word [the Message of Jesus, the Gospel]. Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ. And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip, when they heard him and saw the signs that he did. For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who had them, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was much joy in that city.”

Acts 8:9-13 ESV – Simon the Magician Believes

“But there was a man named Simon, who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was somebody great. They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, ‘This man is the power of God that is called Great.’ And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic. But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles performed, he was amazed.”

Simon was wowed by it all because his magic was fake and he knew it.

Acts 8:14-17 ESV – The Baptism or Filling of the Holy Spirit

“Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.”

They were born again and received the Spirit of Jesus. They received the Message and got saved, but they didn’t have the empowerment – the filling and being whelmed over – the baptism of the Holy Spirit. They had not been immersed by him or clothed in power. “Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.”

“There’s more to this life than living and dying – more than just trying to make it through the day” Steven Curtis Chapman – More to This Life

Jesus isn’t here to make our life a little bit better. Jesus is here to transform our hearts – to completely change us from the inside out, and he does that by the Person, presence, ministry, and power of the Holy Spirit. So, these guys received the Message gladly and they were saved, and they were water-baptized – but they had not been baptized by the Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:14-17 ESV

“Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.”

Don’t let this become just an addendum to the Word. This is what we need, to do what we were called to do, and to become who Christ has called us to be. We need the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. That’s what the Word tells us. When we become the fullness of who we’re called to be, we will shine like a light in this world. Receiving the Holy Spirit is the same thing we did when we were born again – we receive by faith. We walk by faith, not by sight, and we simply receive by faith the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Baptism – Greek: baptizo – to be overwhelmed or whelmed-over by, to immerse in. We are water-baptized, but then also Spirit–baptized. What are we afraid of? …There’s nothing to be afraid of!

Prayer

Father, we honor You right now. We need You. According to Your Word, we realize that we need the Holy Spirit to do this life, to pray, and to engage the culture around us. When we share our faith, we need You so that we may be both strong and gentle at the same time as You lead us. We need fresh power, fresh wind, fresh oil, and fresh water. We need You to whelm us over and immerse us into Your full Presence.

Lord, according to Your Word, we ask that You lay Your hands on us and fill us and clothe us in Your Holy Spirit.

Baptize us fresh and anew. Right now we ask for and receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and we believe and trust that You are faithful, that we will experience something fresh on our lives – a fresh anointing and fresh grace and power. We receive the covering and baptism of the Holy Spirit and we welcome You to fill us on the inside and clothe us on the outside. We receive You now by faith and we thank You for empowering us to fulfill all that You have called us to do in our lifetime.

This is an updated edition of a post originally published on The Bridge

Featured Image by Denise Henze from Pixabay

JOIN COMMUNITY JOIN COLLECTIVE PUBLISH WITH US

The views and opinions expressed by Kingdom Winds Collective Members, authors, and contributors are their own and do not represent the views of Kingdom Winds LLC.

About the Author
Jimmy answered God’s call to ministry in his early 20’s in Lubbock, TX.

One down, god knows how many to go.

It was the petty corruption, and not the killing-the-planet-for-profit part, of course, but still—this one is sweet. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Now for the rest of them. #Pruitt #ITMFA

How the US Auto Industry is Dismantling the World's Most Successful Climate Policy The US automotive industry, led by Ford, GM, Fiat Chrysler and Toyota, has spent millions of dollars in the last few years in an effort to dismantle a decade of policy progress on US vehicle efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions.

We have tracked a two-year plan by the US #auto industry to undermine "the single greatest action the United States has taken to fight #climate change". #cleanercars #EPA #Pruitt #lobby

A clear Tennessee stream. #Pruitt wants it filled, polluted. Vote NO, @SenAlexander. And oppose Trump's contempt for clean, healthy water.
