Not sure the "1000s" bit is accurate, more like low 100's. DA was a deterrent, to avoid being returned, you had to arrive covertly which was extremely difficult. Now, you enter UK waters and cannot be returned, hence increase in overt arrivals. Rebuttal is hard if you're accurate. #pedantry !
