Neptune. Big and blue with some striations like Jupiter. Its symbol, the three pointed triton, is in a lighter overlay covering the planet. Centered and vertical in white is the text #28: neptune The planetary symbol for Neptune, ♆, comes from a stylized version of the trident, the weapon of the Roman god Neptune, after whom the planet was named. The trident symbolizes the sea god's dominion and connection to the water, which reflects the planet's association with the sea, depth, and the subconscious in astrology.

Köhler suggested that the new planet be given the symbol for platinum, which had been described scientifically only 30 years before.
