Two graphs, one from Caspar et al. (1989), the other from Kiss et al. (1989), both showing that the starchless mutant TC7 can still respond to gravity, thought this response is impaired.
Establishment of Arabidopsis as universal #PlantModel allowed easy mutant analyses, and researchers quickly isolated a starch-deficient mutant, and showed that this could still perceive gravity. However, these plants were just less sensitive to changes in gravity, not completely numb to it.
