A White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) was hiding in the dark behind foliage in Norman, Oklahoma, United States on July 29, 2025. The young buck has velvet antlers. When it is this dark, only a small number of photons arrive at the sensor chip in a Poisson distribution. This results in an appearance of random noise in the photo and the photo appears grainy.
