[8/8] L’étude montre que les sites secondaires, comme la Dibble Polynya, jouent un rôle croissant dans l’équilibre océanique. Surveiller ces eaux moins denses devient essentiel pour comprendre l’évolution future du climat global. #geography #polynya #southernocean

Here's the science. Old NASA images showing the exceptionally strong winds that blow downslope from the Trans-Antarctic Mountains across Terranova Bay. These fierce katabatic winds drive the sea ice eastward. The lines across the water were the “ice dunes”.

#Polynya watch 👀:
The sea ice over Maud Rise is thinning. The next days will show if an open water polynya is developing. 🌊

Zoomed in aerial photo of a beluga whale next to the ice edge, taken in the northern Northwest Territories during sea duck surveys in 2024.

Heading to #Inuvik, #NorthwestTerritories today for the #Inuvialuit Game Council meeting to share some preliminary results of our #aerial #SeaDuck surveys in the #CapeBathurst #Polynya!

Looking forward to sharing results and chatting about plans opportunities for 2025!

Contrasting two major Arctic coastal polynyas: the role of sea ice in driving diel vertical migrations of zooplankton in the Laptev and Beaufort seas Abstract. The diel vertical migration (DVM) of zooplankton is one of the largest species migrations to occur globally and is a key driver of regional ecosystems and the marine carbon pump. Previously ...

Our new #polynya study (large team led by Igor Dmitrenko) is finally out in Ocean Science! Follow the link to learn more about the role of sea ice openings (i.e., polynyas & leads) for driving the DVM of zooplankton in the Laptev and Beaufort seas - os.copernicus.org/articles/20/...

Slowly but surely chipping away at the party scene where Polynya meets Wólfram for the first time

All things considered I feel like I hit a sweet spot in tone for a medieval setting since my other work is very lyrical in a modern sense

Discussing some work on sea ice and coastal #polynya in #Antarctica with colleague and we stumbled on this frankly beautiful image from #ESA 's #Sentinel2 on 22nd March this year. So much going on in this picture from #ShackletonIceShelf in East Antarctica that I'd like to dive into...
