#PoorLandUse is a huge problem in our city. Our downtown is nothing but parking and lots where buildings used to be and no plans to build.
We promote #PoorLandUse by not penalizing the long term holding of empty lots and now, our downtown is full of empty lots and parking lots. People need to stop perpetuating the myth there is no parking; they are just mad there is no free parking 3' from the door of where they are going. #yqrcc
Stop letting the downtown be bulldozed and start charging more property tax on ALL those empty lots. The downtown has the highest property tax per square foot so no wonder owners want empty lots instead of empty buildings and we all lose. #yqrcc #PoorLandUse
The Capital Point lot and the former Black Building lot are still undeveloped. We can't afford to keep letting these lots sit empty, paying little tax for decades while the owner decides when it will make enough money. #PoorLandUse #DeadDowntown #yqrcc
The same could be said for downtown. It's paved parking lots at the expense of usable buildings and no incentive to develop. Plus getting rid of one ways in favour of two ways gets traffic through downtown faster. Both are not helpful to create a vibrant downtown. #PoorLandUse #yqrcc
It would actually be better if it does not get built. The scale and density are wrong for downtown. We need to stop taking whatever we can get and start sticking to our plans, like the ones that require ground-floor-retail to create a vibrant streetscape downtown. Townhouses is #PoorLandUse. #yqr
