I can't believe it, but I've finally achieved one of my all time grails! For those who don't know, "Car Robots" is the original Japanese version of "Robots in Disguise" from 2000, and this dude wasn't made available in the American version of the toy line. Being a repaint of the original G1 Fortress Maximus toy somehow meant at the time, it didn't meet safety requirements to be sold in stores... what the concern was, idk but thats the story from what I understand. But as mentioned, hes a repaint of the ORIGINAL TITAN! Standing at 22 inches tall, but with the added weight of die cast and thick as fuck plastic, even if he isn't taller than a modern titan, hes 100% denser and heftier! And he has a presence that cannot be ignored! The super saturated colors, the thick proportions and simple detailing of an 80's mold make him stand out more than any toy in my collection! Not to mention this molds always had, in my opinion, the best base mode ever! Before or since... the large central tower and back towers with varying levels and bases makes him a truly convincing city, as opposed to just being a dude laying down with some spikes poking out. Though ship mode is 100% just him chilling. It is a shame this release doesn't have his giant hand guns though, i feel they complete the look. Of course the biggest issue here has is, being a G1 mold, minimalist articulation with no knees or really any usable leg movement, but to be fair... who's posing something this massive? Even if he had the movement, hes already doing what he'd need to, standing there and looking pretty, if I have to strangle him to transform him, I dont wanna do the same for a dynamic display that'll fall of the top shelf and put a crater in the earth! So hes a giant beautiful statue, so what! I'm just stoked to finally have this beautiful peice! And not resort to hasbro or takara using that damned titans return mold for a new one... but yeah, thays a huuugw check mark off the wants list!
