“Look for the shafts of light…”

Hard to believe that this still of David Bowie as TJ Newton in The Man Who Fell To Earth is over fifty years old.

Then again all of David James’ stills from the set of the film in 1975 are timeless.

Eric Stephen Jacobs 1974 LA session became the Young Americans album sleeve. Several months later another session was organised for promotional shots in New York. The flying suit with American flag images were utilised for promotion of The Man Who Fell To Earth.

Twenty-nine years ago in New York, photographer Albert Watson captured some very striking images of David Bowie.

“Look out on a green world...”

This 2001 shot by Markus Klinko was taken during the sessions for the Heathen album.

We think it’s a bit tasty.

“Putting on a face that’s new...”

This Steve Schapiro shot from 1975 is a frame away from the shot that graced the cover of the 2016 WHO CAN I BE NOW? (1974 - 1976) box.

Many of the shots from this session encapsulate the very definition of timelessness. Agreed?

“You shall own a hay wain shirt...” *

Another fifty-year-old shot of Bowie taken by Steve Schapiro which provided the 1975 covers for both The Sunday Times Magazine and the Space Oddity reissue sleeve.

* We’ve tweaked the lyric, but from which song did we take it?

“Fame, what’s your name?”

Here's another shot of Bowie taken by Steve Schapiro. This time it’s from the September 1975 recording of Bowie’s appearance on Cher during the taping of his first #1 45, Fame.

The show was broadcast two months later.

“He’s so divine, His soul shines...”

What better way to kick off the weekend than a fifty-year-old shot of Bowie taken by Steve Schapiro?
