a block of rock, this side of which has a fossil fish visible. There are delicate ribs, fin rays, spine, and seemingly a face and gill plate. There's also a stain which may or may not be the dorsal fin.

I've had this fossil for years and I still don't know what it is or if it's one that could be ID'ED to a genus. It's a small #rayfinnedfish #fossil, just over 2 cm long, though it was longer with the rest of it which is gone.

Elopichthys is a #monospecificGenus of freshwater #rayfinnedFish belonging to the #family #Xenocyprididae, the East Asian minnows or sharpbellies. The only species in the genus is Elopichthys bambusa, the yellowcheek or kanyu (#Chinese: 鱤魚; #pinyin: gǎnyú).
