Gameplay of "Red Faction." It's a first-person shooter. The player character is holding a pistol in his right hand, with an ammo counter in the top right corner of the screen, and in the top left is the player's health indicator, a circular gauge with two numbers showing your health and shield.
A miners' uprising has begun deep under Mars, and one of our fellow miners shows us how to deal with fascists. Sadly, most interactions between the miners and Ultor guards will end with the former getting killed.

One of the weapons in the game is the "remote charge." These help demonstrate Red Faction's "GeoMod" (geometry modification) engine, allowing for plenty of environmental destruction, a big deal at the time. The opening area of the game has some very helpful yellow markings on the ground and walls where you can set a remote charge, then detonate them to open up new pathways or reveal hidden rooms. There are many possibilities with the GeoMod technology, and buildings and terrain can be significantly altered if you so desire.
