Source, link in post. Former lobbyist for the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) the ‘premier lobbying organization for UK businesses‘, which is funded by member and sponsor businesses. The CBI’s sponsors at one time included NatWest, John Lewis, Virgin Media O2, Aviva, Phoenix Group and Zurich Insurance Group. A rape allegation against a senior CBI manager in 2023 hit the headlines and led to high profile businesses distancing themselves from the CBI. The CBI has lobbied against bringing public services and utilities back into public ownership. Mather does not list his time at the CBI on his LinkedIn profile. Mather is a parliamentary supporter of LFI (Labour Friends of Israel). Did not vote in favour of a ceasefire in Gaza on November 15th 2023 – despite the death toll having reached almost 15,000 and over 100 UN relief workers having been killed by Israeli forces; the motion failed; there were 56 Labour MPs who did defy the whip and voted in favour. Donations received: £7.5k from Gary Lubner; £3k from Jason Stockwood, former CEO of Simply Business which provides insurance to small businesses and landlords, also a Labour mayoral candidate 2025; £10k from Owen Trotter who controls one third of private equity fund Key Capital Partners, a firm which has invested millions of pounds in private healthcare companies. Case studies of their healthcare investments show that Key Capital’s typical MO when they take over a company is to add a layer of management staff and then ‘exit’, selling the firm to another private equity fund, and making four or five times what they purchased it for. Owen Trotter has donated at total of £55k to Labour MPs in recent years, and in 2024 was employed by Labour MP Luke Charters as his Office Manager, leading to accusations of cronyism.
Labour MP Keir Mather, such a babyface, but not so innocent when you look at his record, including him being a former lobbyist for the CBI (who oppose public ownership of UK public services).
