Vanishing Sands: Losing Beaches to Mining In a time of accelerating sea level rise and increasing…

"Vanishing Sands: Losing Beaches to #Mining" exposes the #sandmining crisis. Written by marine geologist Orrin H. Pilkey and a team of interdisciplinary experts, we learn how sand is ecologically irreplaceable when removed from dynamic #sediment systems.

How does sand mining reshape rivers?

@drchrishackney.bsky.social explores how #sandmining is transforming riverbeds in the #MekongRiver, #Cambodia. His work shows that bedforms become larger, steeper, and rougher than natural ones, altering flow and #sediment dynamics!

#geography #sandmining #hydrosystem #Mekong
