We Are Not Retreating: Boycott Target DC on the Ending of the Target Fast Movement and Negotiations with Target Executives For nearly one year, our local coalition of Black clergy, labor unions, community leaders and organizations has been on-the-ground picketing, rallying, and leafleting in front of Target stores in DC in solidarity with the 40-day "Target Fast" led by Rev. Jamal Bryant and to join the national boycott movement against larget, led by sen. Nina lurner and lamika Mallory tor the corporation rolling back its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in capitulation to Trump racism.
On March 5, our local coalition leadership met with Target Vice President of Government Affairs, Isaac Reyes and external partner, Rae Robinson, and held a diplomatic dialogue where we raised three DC-oriented demands that were aligned with Bryant, Turner, and Mallory's. To summarize, these demands included investment in DC's HBCUs: Howard University, University of the District of Columbia (including its community college), and investing into DC's Black bank, Industrial Bank, which the national "mothership three" leadership supported. We have stood in unity since the beginning of this effort and have been in coordination with each other's efforts. Throughout this meeting, Target representatives claimed that they have not done anything wrong, and have been proud of their efforts towards "inclusivity" while recognizing that their executive C-suite is majority white and that they have harmed their workers, partners, and shoppers with their continued silence when it comes to DEl rollbacks and ICE abduction of their workers.
They told us bluntly that they will never apologize publicly to our community.
While the "Target Fast" component of the national boycott Target movement is sunsetting, the boycott was never called off and there has not been a retreat as corporate media like USA Today would like to say.…
Attention!! The Target boycott is NOT Over!!!
