hey #ScienceMastodon or idk #speculativefiction or anyone else, what do you think, if we had some terraforming power, how crazy would it be to infuse Earth's atmosphere with more oxygen? Would all life be like "hell yeah, we are all more stoked now" or would there be issues?

143mio EUR for 2087 project proposals with approx. 3mio each. That means a funding rate of 2.2% or a reject rate of 97.8%.

What a waste of resources, so many excellent proposals will be rejected. Science funding has to be organized differently. This is so frustrating, I already regret to have […]

A scientist from a chocolate company is in front of a board that says:
DATA
/blank space/
CONCLUSIONS: eating chocolate will make you look younger and thinner.
The ceo barges in and says: look half the work is done! All you have to do is to fill in the top part so we can legally say the bottom part.

In #Swedish, the word for “scientist” is “naturvetare”. It comes from nature, and a form of the verb “att veta” which means “to know”. So in Swedish, a scientist is literally a “knower of nature”. How cool is that?

How Can People Become Happier? A Systematic Review of Preregistered Experiments Can happiness be reliably increased? Thousands of studies speak to this question. However, many of them were conducted during a period in which researchers commonly “ p-hacked,” creating uncertainty about how many discoveries might be false positives. To prevent p-hacking, happiness researchers increasingly preregister their studies, committing to analysis plans before analyzing data. We conducted a systematic literature search to identify preregistered experiments testing strategies for increasing happiness. We found surprisingly little support for many widely recommended strategies (e.g., performing random acts of kindness). However, our review suggests that other strategies—such as being more sociable—may reliably promote happiness. We also found strong evidence that governments and organizations can improve happiness by providing underprivileged individuals with financial support. We conclude that happiness research stands on the brink of an exciting new era, in which modern best practices will be applied to develop theoretically grounded strategies that can produce lasting gains in life satisfaction.
