A photograph of the entrance to an estuary. The lower half of the image is mostly blue water with a tinge of green, there are many buoys of various colours floating all over the water. Prominent in the centre of the image is a black pontoon with two dingies on it, a smaller red one and a larger black one. To the upper left of the pontoon are two white sail boats which are positioned on the edge of the left-hand sandbank which itself is topped with grass. On the other side of the image is the right-hand sandbank, it is slightly flatter than the left-hand one. Above everything is a blue sky speckled with clouds that extend across the image.

A photograph of a fishing boat (loaded with crab pots at the back). The sea is a radiant greenish-blue, emphasised by the near cloudless sky above. The blue boat with a white wheelhouse is in motion in the centre of the image heading towards a harbour, the wall of which can be seen on the left of the image. Towards the bottom is a concrete jetty used for deploying lifeboats, three thin orange bollards line the jetty, the upper two bollards which are forming leading lines towards the fishing boat. In the background behind the boat is land, with a thin layer of housing giving way to green fields and trees.

It's a bright, clear day with light that suggests we're into late afternoon, early evening now. We're looking out to sea but still close enough to land and a port behind us that we can see a harbour wall extending out from the right and almost reaching the left edge of view. It's a low wall, offering some protection for anything anchored within it although there's nothing in view at the moment. At the left end of the wall a small, round fortification has been erected upon which there might have been cannons sited at one time. Now, all we can see is a small lighthouse, mostly white but with a red cupola housing the bulb, and a couple of small stone buildings. The sunlight is warm and catches the left side of the fort. The sea is almost flat with a dimpled texture like blue-green skin, and the sky is cloudless with a cooling blue at the top fading to a pale, warm white near the horizon.

A cold, damp, moody image with the wind pulling at you as you try to look at it. We're on the promenade deck of a cruise ship on rough, deep grey sea tinged with black-green from the churn and buffeting it's receiving from the elements. Immediately ahead of us under a heavily overcast sky we can see rocks of a harbour entrance jetty and windbreak at the end where it curves parallel to the shore it's extending from. At the very tip there's a low lighthouse with bold red and white hoops on its square tower form. The rocks are slick black where we can see them between the foaming crashes of waves spraying up fiercely. The landscape further back is no more welcoming with its low surface set back from a shallow beach lined with an industrial complex of turbines, towers, chimneys, silos, and piles of aggregate. White steam billows from some spots while black smoke emerges elsewhere and a large flaming spout suggests the burning of gas. It's a hellish scene.
For #MeerMittwoch here's the first time we visited the Netherlands in 2017 on the approach to the locks at IJmuiden to allow us to cruise along the North Sea Canal to Amsterdam. There's an apocalyptic industrial beauty to scenery like this.

It's a bright day with not a cloud in the sky, the blue of which is fading to a soft white as it heads towards the distant horizon lost behind a strip of land. In front of us there is the sea, flat, textured slightly with the faintest of breezes to take on the look of blue skin under a microscope. The land beyond is mountainous but low, gently-sloped at its shoreline with rocks and beaches quickly giving way to trees and grass; and on the flatter land just back from the coast houses spread out across the landscape, none higher than two storeys. Three sailing boats are on the water with a red-hulled one with furled sails central and closest to us. The other two are white and only one has its sails up with glow as they catch the low, evening sunlight from somewhere out of sight to the left. It's a very quiet, relaxing scene.
For #MeerMittwoch this week the evening view from our cabin as we were preparing to depart the port of Vigo in 2021. Vigo would be at our back here and this is looking across the estuary that connects the Vigo river to the Atlantic.

We're on the ocean as sunset approaches. The sun is mostly behind a small cloud over the horizon that's framed by some larger clouds to the left while the sky is clear to the right. What we see is a deep, warm blue on the right side becoming warm white where shafts of golden rays beam out through gaps in the thin cloud cover. The clouds have a glowing aura but dark sides facing us as the light hits their rear. The sea fills up the lower half of the view and it's deep and menacing-looking with the backlit view from the sun making the water dark. There are some low swells across the surface and the crests and ripples pick out highlights from the sun giving it all a leathery animal-skin look. A living thing with a glowing eye above.
