A picture of the book What Do Brothas Do All Day lying open so that back and front covers are visible. Shows a variety of Black men of different ages, hair/clothing styles, uniforms, etc…in a digital line drawing/graphic design style.

A sneak peek, a partial view of the the hidden board covers under the dust jacket. I’ve shown just enough to get the sense there’s a large portrait of a brotha on the front cover and that the back cover is a view of the back of his head.

An angled partial view of the front interior endpapers with a grid of 30+ thumbnail digital line drawing portraits of Black men of all ages and hairstyles, facial hair styles…all drawn from various angles.

Cover of the mentioned book, by Drew Beckmeyer. Features a cut paper looking dark cave interior with anthropomorphic (minimalist but expressive eyes and mouths) stalactite and stalagmite characters, one above the other, slowly dripping themselves into elongated existence.

I did notice the #SecretCover indeed! Love when books have that. The kids always shout out or chant Secret Cover when I finish a Storytime readaloud, plus check the books they sign out.

And the endpapers, too! Yes. Really love when a book is so well-constructed cover to cover with extra touches.

Cover of Plantzilla, by Jessie Nolen and David Catrow. This first photo shows the front half of a tortoise on a plain white background of The Book of Turtles, by Sy Montgomery, illustrated by Matt Patterson. If you follow my book rec posts, you’ll also start to recognize my footstool, or hear/read about it a lot, as I use it for the photo shoot background; thus the books are always on top of a bright fabric full of rows of colourful concentric circles.

The book laid out so that you can see the whole double spread of back and front covers, which show the whole length of a majestic seeming tortoise with black shell divided by straw yellow triangular-lined panels.

The same book, a close-in view of the last photo, but now with the book jacket and dust jacket being lifted up to give a small glimpse of the #SecretCover (see my post on that hashtag) beneath. (Pssstttt, underneath it’s a full cover coverage of the same type of tortoise shell pattern.)

More #scienterrific books I’m reading/cataloguing/processing…

This one has gorgeous super-realistic paintings (but still w/ painterly style visible rather than fully photograph appearing) to go along w/ fascinating facts.
And that cover! Double spread, plus a #SecretCover!
Great backmatter too.
