From Book of Slaughter: "In the early days of the Order, hunters would bind the monster that orphaned the child selected. It was believed that it was only by overcoming a monster that had inflicted deep emotional wounds in the child that a child could become a reliable hunter. But this process left many dead, incapable of passing the First Sacrament of St. George. In modern times, lesser monsters are bred and starved by the Order specifically for the purpose of binding them to an inductee’s totem, so that more of them can survive to adulthood and keep the Order strong and populated."
Regarding "The Sacrament of Initiation", I wonder how true this is. I suspect there is a grain of truth, conveniently exaggerated to hide a more pertinent truth—that children initiated the old fashioned way are harder to control. #SiKtC #Slaughterverse
