A stunning close-up image of the Sun captured in Hydrogen Alpha light. The image showcases details including limb darkening, prominent solar plages, a large prominence extending from the edge, and a smaller prominence visible in silhouette near the center. This amateur astrophotograph reveals the Sun's dynamic and active surface, even during a relatively quiet period.

False-color image of a dramatic solar prominence captured on June 1st from Stuttgart, Germany, using an amateur telescope. The image shows two large prominences, with the one on the left being large enough to encompass Earth. These are clouds of solar gas suspended above the sun's surface by its magnetic field. They are cooler than the surrounding solar surface and appear dark in contrast, despite being extremely hot. A quiescent prominence like this can last for about a month, potentially erupting as a coronal mass ejection (CME).

A breathtaking nightscape near Stockholm, Sweden, featuring vibrant green and purple aurora borealis dancing across the sky above a frozen lake. The silhouette of a bare tree and its shadow are cast on the ice, illuminated by the moon and aurora. The scene depicts a minor geomagnetic storm caused by a coronal mass ejection.

A stunning close-up image of the Sun's chromosphere reveals a massive solar prominence extending beyond the solar limb. The prominence, captured in hydrogen-alpha light, showcases intricate details and appears as a luminous cloud of gas held above the Sun's surface by its magnetic field. The image highlights the increased solar activity following an unusually quiet Solar Minimum. Earth could easily fit below the prominence.

A stunning image from the STEREO (Ahead) spacecraft captures a massive solar prominence erupting from the Sun on September 29. The prominence, composed of hot plasma suspended in twisted magnetic fields, is many times larger than Earth and is shown in extreme ultraviolet light emitted by ionized Helium. This view shows the prominence brightly against the blackness of space.

A stunning extreme ultraviolet image from the SOHO observatory captures a massive solar prominence erupting from the Sun's surface. The image showcases the Sun's immense power and the dynamic nature of its magnetic fields. This event coincided with the autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the vernal equinox in the Southern Hemisphere, marking the changing of seasons. The prominence's scale is immense; Earth would appear tiny in comparison.
