Astronomers create first map of the sun's outer boundary Astronomers have produced the first continuous, two-dimensional maps of the outer edge of the sun's atmosphere, a shifting, frothy boundary that marks where solar winds escape the sun's magnetic grasp. By combining the maps and close-up measurements, scientists from the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (CfA) showed that the boundary grows larger, rougher and spikier as the sun becomes more active. The findings could help scientists improve models showing how the sun affects Earth, and better predict atmospheric complexity for other stars.

☀️New maps reveal the sun’s wild, shifting edge where solar winds break free! It grows rougher with activity—unlocking secrets of our star & others! ✨ #SolarScience

This captivating image visually represents the Parker Solar Probe on its daring mission, with the Sun's fiery surface and dramatic solar flares as a backdrop.

The probe, equipped with its solar panels extended, appears to be rapidly approaching our star, emphasizing its incredible speed and close proximity.

While this is an artist's rendition, it effectively conveys the essence of humanity's fastest spacecraft exploring the Sun's outer corona.

The Parker Solar Probe is designed to withstand extreme heat and radiation, allowing it to study the solar wind and the Sun's magnetic field closer than any previous spacecraft.

Its primary mission is to unravel two long-standing mysteries: why the Sun's corona is millions of degrees hotter than its surface, and how the solar wind is accelerated to supersonic speeds.

As of today, NASA's Parker Solar Probe is indeed the fastest human-made object ever made.

As of its recent close approaches to the Sun, it has reached speeds of over 635,000 km/h (394,000 mph).

That speed will increase even further with each successive orbit due to gravity assists from Venus, eventually nearing 700,000 km/h (430,000 mph).

It was launched in 2018 with the mission to study the Sun's outer atmosphere (the corona), helping scientists understand solar wind and space weather.

🧑‍🚀🕵️🧑‍🎓: Random science fact of the day:

The fastest human-made object is NASA's Parker Solar Probe, launched in 2018.

It’s currently zipping through space at over 635,000 km/h (394,000 mph) as it dives toward the Sun.

'Raindrops in the sun's corona': New adaptive optics shows stunning details of our star's atmosphere The sun's corona—the outermost layer of its atmosphere, visible only during a total solar eclipse—has long intrigued scientists due to its extreme temperatures, violent eruptions, and large prominences. However, turbulence in Earth's atmosphere has caused image blur and hindered observations of the corona. A recent development by scientists from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) National Solar Observatory (NSO), and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), is changing that by using adaptive optics to remove the blur.

✨Unveiling the sun’s fiery crown!🔥 Scientists are now sharpening views of the corona—its mysterious, ultra-hot atmosphere—using adaptive optics! ☀️ #SolarScience
