Japan has proposed a bold sci-fi-level idea: building a 6,800-mile solar ring around the Moon to generate clean electricity and beam it back to Earth. The concept, often called the Lunar Solar Ring, would place continuous solar panels along the Moon’s equator, where sunlight is available for long periods. The harvested energy would be converted into microwaves or laser beams and transmitted safely to receiving stations on Earth, providing round-the-clock renewable power. If realized, this futuristic project could help meet massive global energy demand, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and push space-based clean energy from theory to reality.
