When bald cypress knees grow in grassy areas that are regularly cut with heavy-duty mowers, the remaining growth is fascinating.

Two white swans curve necks and narrow gap between them, still swimming
Finally two white swans draw close and barely touch, bills down - it looks like a heart shape
The Mute Swans had a graceful little dance with a slow approach and necks bent - they drew closer, still with curved necks ... finally ending in a heart shape from which they gracefully withdrew and passed by one another (2022) #SpringGroveCemetery

Summer 2023 - I was able to photograph Red-winged Blackbird fledglings, as well as females!
I hope these fascinating birds return to the same place - #SpringGroveCemetery - so I can watch the females dance on the pond duckweed, catch insects and feed their young ๐ชถ๐ฟ

American Goldfinch, still with lots of yellow, holding a zinnia stem - working on eating the small seeds
This American Goldfinch was happily foraging for zinnia seeds - looking around periodically. These little birds are granivores (seed eaters), but will eat tree buds & young bark with some incidental feeding on insects - #SpringGroveCemetery

A well pucked over sunflower head hanging down
Sunflowers often hang their heads as the seeds begin to ripen. This one has been plucked - probably by American Goldfinches - #SpringGroveCemetery has a few areas with flowering plants that appeal to birds - other areas have flowers beloved by pollinators & many acres are wild.
