Bar charts comparing conventional and novel carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits in the voluntary carbon market (VCM) for 2022 and 2023. The top half shows conventional CDR (e.g. afforestation, soil carbon, forest management), with many more credits issued and sold than delivered. The bottom half shows novel CDR (e.g. BECCS, DACCS, biochar), with a clear increase in credits sold in 2023, especially for BECCS and DACCS. Across both categories, the number of credits sold exceeds credits delivered, highlighting a delivery gap in the market.
