'Kill list' uncovered at Memphis Community Schools through student tip A Michigan superintendent is commending a student who reported a "kill list" written by another student, saying the decision led to a rapid and timely response by school officials. Sara Dobbelaer, superintendent of Memphis Community Schools, informed families on Tuesday in a letter that a student used the district's Yellowjacket Tip Line to report a concerning journal entry written by a junior high student. The document, "Kill List Today," contained the names of 13 people, both students and staff, Dobbelaer said. After receiving the tip, school administrators and a school resource officer investigated the matter using the district's threat assessment protoccols, Dobbelaer said. Every parent of a student identified on the list as well as each staff member were personally notified ahead of the letter, she said. Dobbelaer said disciplinary measures have been applied in the case but she declined to be specific. "I understand the emotional weight of this situation and the district will provide appropriate support for those affected," the letter stated. "I am deeply grateful for the student who spoke up," Dobbelaer wrote. "Their courage and quick thinking helped maintain safety and allowed for a rapid, timely and measured response."
